A superb first-half Sam Kerr goal has given Chelsea a 1-0 home win over Manchester United to see the Blues leap-frog their rivals to claim the top spot on the Women’s Super League table
A superb Sam Kerr strike gave Chelsea a 1-0 home win over Manchester United as the Blues leapfrogged their rivals to claim top spot in a tight Women’s Super League title race.
Manchester United’s Ona Batlle comes under pressure from Chelsea striker Sam Kerr at Kingsmeadow on Sunday.“I just love playing at home in front of our crowd and I love big games,” Kerr told Sky Sports. “I find these ones the most enjoyable. I’ll have to watch it back [the goal] but it felt pretty good ... I’m buzzing. It was a good team performance.”
Lauren James lofted a superbly weighted long ball behind the defence in the 23rd minute. Kerr chested it down before lifting it over Earps for a sublime finish that took the Australian to 22 goals in all competitions this season. United lacked composure in the second half and did little to threaten the Chelsea goal, rendering Kerr’s strike enough for the Blues to secure a crucial win.

United States has been ‘cautious’ in support given to UkraineThe United States has been “quite cautious” in the support they have given Ukraine, according to former British commander Richard Kemp. He said the US has waited until almost the “last possible moment” to provide the key equipment Ukraine needs. “Obviously, President Biden is mindful of those people who don’t want to support Ukraine, or don’t feel it is the US’ job to be doing so,” Mr Kemp told Sky News Australia. “I think while the current administration continues in Washington, we will see a continued level of support.”
