These issues cater to the insecurity among many in the Republican base engendered by the potential loss of status for white Christians in a more diverse and open society. Certainly, immigration is a very significant part of the Republican Party’s appeal to its base just because it is so easy to use it to rile up people with hate. I doubt there is truly any interest among Republican politicians in seriously addressing saner and more compassionate immigration policies. I am only voicing my concern about school vouchers. I don't know what Mr. Tomlinson has against school vouchers, much less why he is even writing about it in a business column. That said, is he against children getting a better education by using the vouchers to go to a school that might offer a better education? Maybe he should apply to go to a school in HISD and then think again about writing a piece against school vouchers.
