🇬🇧 Behind the patriotic scenes in Windsor, a political battle is under way which could see the reigning Conservative Party swept out of power in the King’s own back yard for the first time in 16 years ChaplainChloe reports:
, they believe they could be in with a shot of knocking them off the top spot in Windsor and Maidenhead council and forming a new coalition leadership.
The believe a combination of frustration at the national government and local issues – including the council getting in to more than £200m worth of debt and Windsor MP, Adam Afriye, being declared bankrupt – has pushed voters away from the Tories.: “In this ward we came a good second last time, in 2019, after having put literally no effort in and this time things have really changed in our favour.
“We are getting a positive reception in places that we really shouldn’t be, people who have been lifelong conservatives. And people who voted conservative because they just assumed that they were the competent party that just got things done. What they found, both locally and nationally, is that is simply not the case.”
This argument certainly rings true with what voters were saying around the town in the days leading up to the vote.
