Opinion: I live next to Friendship Park, a place designated for making friends across barriers [Opinion]
It can be messy and scary to reach out across unknown territory, to not have clearly drawn lines that fool us into thinking we are safer if we wall ourselves off from what we are connected to. It’s more important than ever to have the courage to work for a world where native flora stabilizes our common ground and where we overcome our fears and allow ourselves to be vulnerable so we can build friendships instead of walls for protection.
Perhaps this shift will be less frightening if we start with acknowledging that Friendship Park is both a precedent for a bright future and a symbol of a time-proven past.
