Karen Molloy, from Swinton, was hit by a sense of foreboding while on holiday

Karen Molloy was on holiday in Scotland when she felt an overwhelming sense of dread. The 57-year-old was hit by a sudden wave of nausea and light-headedness while preparing for a day of white-water rafting.

“The reason I’m happy to share my story is because often heart attacks don’t show like they do on TV where people collapse. A new survey recently published by NHS England has revealed a lack of confidence among the public in recognising the symptoms of a heart attack. While the most common symptom is chest pain, symptoms can vary from person to person. Other symptoms can include a feeling of pain; pressure, heaviness, tightness or squeezing across your chest, pain in other parts of the body – such as in the arms , jaw, neck, back and tummy; feeling lightheaded or dizzy; sweating; shortness of breath; feeling sick or being sick ; an overwhelming feeling of anxiety and coughing or wheezing.

“I was a mum of three kids and my youngest was quite young. It really impacted on what I thought my future was going to look like. “I’m still here and I’m very, very lucky and I feel privileged to be here because I’ve had two heart attacks. If I can help and support people with the help they need, then I feel like it’s worthwhile.”
