'I just had to be here': People queue for hours to see Queen's coffin in Edinburgh ⚫ Bearing tea and sandwiches, people were prepard to queue all night to see the Queen’s coffin
George Higgins had already been awake for almost 24 hours by the time he joined the queue to see the Queen’s coffin, but a little sleep deprivation is not going to stop him from seeing the monarch and paying his respects one final time.
“I could do with going to my bed, to be honest with you, but at the end of the day the Queen gave us 70 years of great service. She was a wonderful woman and the least I can give her is seven hours, 10 hours of my life.” Those who joined the queue to see the Queen’s coffin also had to make another sacrifice: passing up the opportunity to watch the new King and other members of the Royal Family walking behind her hearse as it made its way up the Royal Mile from the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
