New details are being found about the deadly police shooting in southeast Austin following a SWAT situation that lasted several hours on Tuesday. “I couldn’t believe that it happened in our neighborhood right here,” said Miguel Uribe , who has lived in the neighborhood next to the Texaco gas station for 20 years.
“I was sitting in my room, and I heard the cops," said Uribe. "I heard a microphone; they were yelling at him.”“It was scary," he said. "I was in here by myself, good thing I don’t have no children, but when I came out here to get some air, there were officers in the cul de sac. They had everything blocked off completely.”
Austin Police said the suspect could be seen pouring lighter fluid throughout the store, all while a store employee remained locked in a back office. According to APD, the officer who shot the suspect has been with the department for 16 years. He will be placed on administrative duty while two investigations are done into the shooting.
