Rogue One's director still loves Star Wars.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Gareth Edwards, the director of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, has addressed behind-the-scenes drama of the Star Wars movie and has also shared his praises for George Lucas. Since the Disney acquisition, Lucasfilm has earned a reputation for behind the scenes drama; in the case of Rogue One, Tony Gilroy was brought on board to re-shoot Edwards' movie.
Uproxx took the opportunity of an interview with Edwards over his latest movie, The Creator, to ask about Star Wars. Despite all the rumors, Edwards gives an upbeat assessment of the joy of Star Wars, and praises the one person who made it all possible: George Lucas himself. I do think there’s a lot of conversation about Rogue One and me and everything. And I honestly feel when I watch Rogue One, the person who doesn’t get enough credit is … George Lucas. Everything that’s great about that movie, you can pretty much trace back to George. And even the Darth Vader scene that lots of people talk about? I can’t take credit for it. Because it’s all George. You know what I mean? And if you see, it’s not a character from my film, it’s Star Wars.
Edwards reflects that all the more iconic parts of his movie can't be traced back to him, but rather Lucas, who created characters such as Darth Vader. The movie offered him the opportunity to play within Lucas' sandbox of Star Wars, and that's what he remembers when reflecting upon it. Gareth Edwards Shows The Joy Of Making Star Wars Star Wars is so iconic, from its stories to all of its characters. The franchise has inspired storytelling and world building ever since its very first movie, and to see a director like Edwards understand that and express such gratitude towards it is really refreshing.
