Like Christmas, summer seems to come round faster every year. Unlike Christmas, however, this is a) true, thanks to global warming and b) a bad, bad, bad, bad thing ☀️ LucyMangan

Yes, yes – all cities have parks. But these are not lush oases in the urban desert. You will not find many flower displays in the average park, nor even enough trees to provide proper deep and cooling shade. They are instead stretches of dry, scrubby grass covered in dog poo if you’re lucky and spent hypodermics if you’re not.

And when it shines on our bodies, all kinds of physical hell break loose. The sweat. The sunburn. The unprepared feet suddenly in sandals. Theof people who should never go shirtless. The synthetic fibres on people who don’t realise that even the thickest cotton layer will serve you better than the thinnest polyester. The body maintenance burden ticks up .
