The Ship at Lathom won the Best Restaurant in Lancashire Award at The England Business Awards, so of course we had to go and see what the fuss was all about
Lancashire is home to a vast number of excellent gastropubs and restaurants so to be named the best is a huge accomplishment.
I was in no rush to choose my food though as the menu is extensive and as I sat perusing it I couldn't help but nosy at what other diners were eating. A woman at the table next to me - and I apologise for rubber-necking if it was noticed - had opted for three of the 'Lancashire tapas' dishes and they looked so good.
My mum's broccoli and stilton soup is by far one of the best dishes she ever used to make and so I wanted to see how The Ship measured up. Served with a warm chunk of sourdough the soup, priced at £5,50, arrived steaming and looked delicious.
