Yes campaigners have taken to social media to share frustration with Saturday’s referendum result, with many launching personal attacks on No voters and accusing the Coalition of spreading misinformation.

More than 60 per cent of Australians emphatically voted No on the referendum to enshrine an Indigenous Voice to Parliament into the constitution, while the Yes vote failed to get up in a single state.

Photos of disappointed young Yes voters soon flooded social media on Sunday, many taken at Yes events in city suburbs like Ashfield in Sydney’s inner west. Veteran author and commentator Jane Caro called the outcome"quintessentially racist" while some prominent journalists are currently observing a week of"mourning" after the defeat.

It's clear - after 40% of Aus and close to 80% of Indigenous Aus voted for change - that the chunk of middle Australia that just wants this topic and the awkward feelings it elicits to go away, will not get their way in the long run. This ain't going away.I’m feeling emotionally and physically gutted today. I’m sure ‘no’ trolls will take great glee hearing this.

“I really hope that when the analysis is done, win or lose, that that is exposed for all Australians to see. I hope there are repercussions ... That dishonesty should not be forgotten in our democracy by the Australian people.A Yes voter becomes emotional following the referendum defeat. Picture: Getty.
