As WSDOT's 'Wild West Weekend' of road construction - and related closures - enters its final full day, major closures on I-405 persist, with northbound lanes shut down in Renton and southbound lanes closed in Kirkland.
The northbound I-405 remains closed between SR 169 and SR 900/Sunset Blvd, while the southbound lanes are closed between NE 124th St and NE 70th Pl.'Wild West Weekend': Major highway closures expected to cause traffic delays on I-405, I-5 WSDOT says its crews are working tirelessly around the clock to maximize the limited construction window. In Kirkland, workers have already laid over 10,000 square feet of new pavement and aim to place an additional 25,000 square feet before the weekend concludes. This is equivalent to paving an area the size of four basketball courts. Key drainage work beneath the center lanes has also been completed, which WSSDOT explained was only feasible with a full closure. In Renton, progress is also moving along. Approximately 75% of the new concrete surface had been poured over Saturday evening, with drainage work more than halfway finished. Crews placed 500 tons of asphalt and completed expansion joint work on one bridge, with two more bridges still requiring attention. Preparations are underway to install over 4,500 feet of new barrier and remove an old overhead sign structure. These closures are scheduled to continue until 4 a.m. Monday, with officals stating, "We know closures like this are frustrating. They disrupt plans, slow down weekends, and make everyday trips harder. We don’t take that lightly." Drivers are advised to leave early, remain calm, drive safely, and use alternate routes whenever possible.
