The Arizona Department of Transportation completed this project in June 2023. The project installed a high-speed fiber optic backbone along Interstate 17 from Van Buren Avenue to Anthem Way, connecting existing Intelligent Transportation System devices with new ITS improvements.
This system connects Dynamic Message Signs that provide drivers with real-time, traffic-related information, ramp metering and CCTV cameras along the corridor.Installed approximately 31 miles of ducts and fiber optic cables within existing ITS conduit infrastructure.Installed fiber optic panels within existing communications buildings.Installed telecommunications pull box cabinets.Construction began January 2022 and was completed in June 2023.
