Stay cool! The Travis County Sheriff's Office and Hyundai Motors America Saturday partnered up for an event to offer a free vehicle anti-theft software update at the Travis County Community Center, located at 15822 Foothill Farms Loop, Pflugerville, TX.
The event that takes place from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. will have specially trained mobile service technicians onsite to perform and complete the software upgrade, which should require less than 30 minutes. There are no appointments nor registration needed, and all Hyundai owners are also eligible to receive a complimentary steering wheel lock.
Hyundai anti-theft clinics are held across the country to assist Hyundai owners in protecting their vehicles from the viral "Kia Boys" Tik Tok trend and method of theft. “In the summer of 2021, we had a sharp increase in the theft of our customers’ vehicles, so Hyundai developed a software patch that we’re installing here, said Dave VandLinde, vice president for Hyundai Motors America. “That patch is for 2011 through 2021 Hyundai vehicles, where you insert a key and turn it to start the vehicle.”
According to a report released on August 27 by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, the Hyundai anti-theft clinics have been "extremely effective," and owners of Hyundai vehicles without an electronic immobilizer "should contact their local dealer regarding the software upgrade."
