Hyundai Mobis has developed a new technology aimed at improving safety and performance of electric vehicles by cooling battery cells during ultra-fast charging.

The company claims the new technology, made of aluminum alloy and coolant, differs from traditional thermal management by placing pulsating heat pipes between battery cells.South Korea-based automotive component supplier Hyundai Mobis has introduced new battery cooling technology in a bid to prevent EV batteries from overheating during ultra-fast charging of vehicles.

Hyundai Mobis explains that its system differs from traditional thermal management by placing pulsating heat pipes between battery cells. These pipes rapidly transfer heat from each cell to cooling blocks, ensuring stable temperature control at the module level. Pulsating heat pipes work by distributing heat through the vibration and circulation of coolant, maintaining efficiency with minimal gravity impact, even in fast-moving vehicles. With over ten times the heat transfer capacity of standard aluminum, they swiftly dissipate heat from overheated battery cells to the vehicle’s exterior.
