Former BBC newsreader Huw Edwards is due to be sentenced tomorrow for his involvement in a WhatsApp chat with ex-news anchor, who has already been jailed for possessing and distributing indecent images of children.
Huw Edwards The ex-news anchor is due to be sentenced tomorrow at Westminster Magistrates Court, where he previously pleaded guilty in July to three counts of making indecent images of children. The estimated age of children in the majority of the Category A images is 13 to 15, although two of the moving images showed a child aged around seven to nine.
Mr Kotrie-Monson, whose firm has handled around 600 cases involving indecent images, said: “It’s still incredibly unlikely he’ll receive any kind of prison sentence because he’s a first time offender.” Siobhain Egan, non-executive director at criminal law firm Lewis Nedas, also suggested the chances of Edwards being sent directly to prison were slim.“Do I expect him to go to prison? No, I don’t,” she said.
“The men had different roles, they are different ages, with different circumstances and mitigation. I’m not expecting Edwards to go to prison.” “And once you keep it, you’re guilty of the offence. If you come across it by accident and you immediately delete it, that’s a defence in law. He didn’t. And the implication for that is he was very happy to receive it.”
