The UW was led by returning sophomore guard Koren Johnson, who scored a career-best 25.
Even with all of the new faces, it was holdover sophomore guard Koren Johnson who got the University of Washington basketball season off to a promising start by scoring a career-high 25 points in the Huskies' 91-57 victory over Bellarmine on Monday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.
Senior forward Keion Brooks Jr. backed him with 22 points in 28 minutes of action. He had a rough first half, finishing with just 4 points on 2 of 6 shots. After picking up an early offensive foul, UW coach Mike Hopkins sat him down. Johnson started in place of the veteran and showed why his nickname this past summer was 'Scorin' Koren' Johnson while playing at The Crawsover, an annual summer Pro-Am hosted by retired NBA veteran Jamal Crawford.
Senior center Braxton Meah struggled some in his first game back after missing last Sunday's exhibition with an ankle injury.
