A husband and wife from Maryland lost their lives in a wrong-way crash on I-83 in the Loganville area, according to the county officials.
A husband and wife lost their lives in a crash on I-83, which troopers said happened after they entered the interstate going the wrong direction.
Debra Lee Williams, 70, was pronounced dead on scene of the crash, and Louis Williams, 72, was taken to York Hospital, where he died from his injuries, the York County Coroner's Office wrote in a news release. The couple lived in Middle River, Maryland. Pennsylvania State Police said the wreck, which involved four vehicles, happened around 10 p.m. Thursday on I-83 south near miler marker 11 in the Loganville area.
Troopers said Debra Williams entered I-83 south driving north near Exit 10. Louis Williams had been a front-seat passenger in the vehicle, the coroner said. The couple's vehicle crashed head-on with a second vehicle, which troopers said was unable to avoid the collision. The impact of the crash caused the second vehicle to flip onto its side, and it struck the back side of a third vehicle.
State police said the driver of the second vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital. A child in the second vehicle was not hurt. The York County Coroner's Office said it's believed that both Debra and Louis Williams had been wearing seatbelts. The coroner said both husband and wife died of blunt force trauma, and their deaths were ruled accidental.
