A massive wildfire, the Hurst fire, continues to rage in Sylmar, California, fueled by dangerous Santa Ana winds. The fire has burned over 500 acres and forced the evacuation of thousands of residents.

Firefighters are relentlessly battling the Hurst fire in Sylmar, California . The blaze has consumed over 500 acres with no containment as of Wednesday morning, according to Cal Fire. The fire, reported around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 5900 block of Yarnell Street, is one of four major fires raging in Los Angeles County amidst dangerous, life-threatening Santa Ana winds.

The governor's office estimates that over 44,000 people in the area are under evacuation orders, with 40,000 structures threatened. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the state a Fire Management Assistance Grant to help fund the fight against the Hurst Fire, as well as the Palisades and Eaton fires. Evacuation centers have been established at the Ritchie Valens Recreation Center, Northridge Park, and Sepulveda Recreation Center. The Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank is available for the evacuation of large animals. Several major freeways and roadways have been closed due to the fire, including portions of the 210, 14, and Golden State Freeways
