The Eastern Pacific hurricane season finally turned active this week after sitting dormant the first five weeks of the season with the formation of the basin's first hurricane and another tropical storm developing in its wake.Beatriz formed off the south-central coast of Mexico Thursday and has since become a hurricane. Beatriz is expected to intensify further.
If the core of Beatriz tracks close enough to the coast, damaging winds are possible. It's also possible Beatriz's center could move inland over Mexico sooner and more quickly die out.Also, bands of heavy rain are expected to stream inland over southwest Mexico both before and after the center of Beatriz passes. This could lead to flash flooding and landslides in areas of higher terrain.
