Hurricane Milton is rapidly intensifying in the Gulf of Mexico and is projected to hit Florida by Wednesday, potentially becoming the worst storm to impact the Tampa area in over a century. Officials warn of life-threatening storm surges, widespread flooding, and urge residents to prepare for the impending disaster.

"If the storm stays on the current track, it will be the worst storm to impact the Tampa area in over 100 years," according to the"A storm surge up to 11 feet damaged and destroyed a significant amount of the structures along coastal locations from Pasco county south through southwest Florida ," the NWS described.
By Monday afternoon, Milton had reached maximum sustained winds of 175 mph in the Gulf of Mexico on a path to hit Florida by Wednesday. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Sunday that while it remains to be seen where Milton will strike, it’s clear the state is going to be hit hard.
