Parents in a neighborhood near 700 West and 400 North in Hurricane are concerned about what they are calling a dangerous intersection.
They’ve repeatedly petitioned the city to add a crossing guard to the intersection, to which Hurricane Mayor Nanette Billings has declined.
Sarah Rahde, who lives in the adjacent neighborhood, said the intersection “quickly became an issue.” “Kids at that age aren’t fully aware of their surroundings," she said. "They might see a car but they don’t think of the depth or the distance the car is from them, or the speed at which they are coming. When these cars aren’t yielding, they pose a liability of being hit.”“I think the responsibility should fall on the city. I’m just a stay-at-home mom, I’m not always available. I think we need somebody who can be consistent,” Carstens said.
Carstens, however, said the intersection they are concerned about is far busier than the one up the street.
