It's still too soon to say if Lee will come close to the US.
Published:Hurricane Lee was a Category 3 storm on Saturday morning as it continued to track westward in the Atlantic. Lee is forecast to stay north of the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico, but it's still too soon to say for sure it won't affect the U.S. East Coast. Most models suggest it will turn northward, however.Hurricane Lee was a lot weaker than 24 hours ago but still a major hurricane as it continued on a path westward in the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday.
The hurricane center reminded the public that Lee is still a dangerous hurricane. Forecasters expect Lee to stay steady in strength today, but gradually strengthen again on Sunday and Monday. Most forecast models continue to show Lee taking a big turn to the north at some point. If it turns north sooner rather than later it would mean good news for the East Coast. But it’s still unclear when that turn may happen.
As of 10 a.m. CDT Saturday, the center of Hurricane Lee was located about 350 miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands and was moving west-northwest at 12 mph.
