So far, Hurricane Lee is not expected to make landfall in New Jersey although the shore should brace for dangerous rip currents and swells next week, forecasters said.
“Due to its mega strengthening from Thursday to Friday morning, becoming a Category 5 for a period of time, Lee holds the title of the strongest hurricane to churn in the Atlantic during the 2023 season,” forecasters there said.
“It is way too soon to know what level of impacts, if any, Lee might have along the U.S. East Coast late next week, especially since the hurricane is expected to slow down considerably over the southwest Atlantic,” the“Pretty much no matter where the storm is in that northerly track, you’re going to see it generate pretty dangerous rip currents and swells ,” said Wunderlin, noting the impacts are expected across the entire Jersey Shore. “And those rip currents will be rather persistent.
In a 10:26 a.m. update Saturday, AccuWeather meteorologists warned the potential threat of impacts to New England were increasing.
