Hurricane Idalia has made landfall in Florida, bringing a storm surge that is likely to be deadly. Ron DeSantis, the state governor, issued a warning for residents before it hit, saying: 'It is going to be a big, big deal.'

Ron DeSantis, the state governor, held a briefing a little over an hour ago, and the advice from one of his officials to residents was:"Consider putting mattresses on your head. Analysis: Much of Florida has never experienced the like of what is on the wayis on the ground in Florida, where he has explained why so many residents are concerned.
"The authorities are warning people on the coast that that could wrench properties from their foundations and it could cause flooding miles inland." The reporter began her question about Mr Trump, which appeared to be about his lack of comment over the hurricane, before Mr DeSantis interjected. "We'll be back with some more briefings," he says before departing. Ron DeSantis retakes the podium and adds some closing remarks, before facing questions from reporters. "We're ready to go... as soon as it's safe to do so, you're going to see all these different assets deployed.
