New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said that President Biden approved an emergency disaster declaration for 14 counties in the state, including New York City. The designation provides federal funding and assistance to the affected counties.
The death toll from Hurricane Ida continued to rise Friday, as more bodies were found after theand several people died in extremely difficult post-storm conditions in Louisiana.
At least 49 people died in the Northeast after intense rain, flash floods and tornadoes from the remnants of Hurricane Ida , catching many people off guard. At least 25 people died in New Jersey, and six people were still missing, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s representative said.
