"We're talking about impacts in a part of Florida that hasn't seen a major direct impact in nearly 100 years," Criswell said. "There's also parts of Florida where there's a lot of new residents that have never experienced this type of threat. So my message to them is still take this very seriously. Listen to your local officials, and those Floridians that have been through this before, help your neighbors that may have not had to go through this.
The local police chief warned residents to prepare for a few days without power saying once winds hit sustained 45 mph, law enforcement officers will not respond.Satellite and radar data indicated the center of Ian made landfall just southwest of the town of La Coloma in the Pinar Del Rio Province of Cuba at 4:30 a.m.As Ian made landfall in western Cuba Tuesday morning, the powerful storm lashed the island with rain and winds.
