Hurricane Fiona made landfall on the southwestern coast of Puerto Rico Sunday afternoon, hours after strengthening to become a category 1 hurricane.

"On the forecast track, the center of Fiona will continue to pass near or over southwestern and western Puerto Rico this afternoon and evening," the NHC said.
