Beryl is expected to bring life-threatening winds and storm surge to the Windward Islands.
Hurricane Beryl is now a category 4, downgraded from a “potentially catastrophic” Category 5 hurricane — the first
ever to reach that strength in the Atlantic during the month of July. While forecasts indicate that Beryl is weakening, the hurricane is still expected to bring “life threatening winds and storm surge” to Jamaica on Wednesday. As of 2 p.m Eastern, Beryl was 175 miles South East of Isla Beata, Dominican Republic moving west-northwest at about 22 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Beryl will bring hurricane conditions to the coast of Jamaica on Wednesday and to the Cayman Islands on Thursday. The hurricane will turn further west and is expected to continue weakening before reaching the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico later that night. Through the weekend and into early next week, The Post’sthere’s a slim possibility that Beryl could pose a risk to coastal Mexico and Southern Texas as it moves west or if it were to turn north over the gulf to coastal Texas and Louisiana.
