SAN ANTONIO - Hurricane Beryl
continues barreling towards the Yucatan Thursday evening and has increased strength upon its arrival.Beryl is expected to make landfall in the Yucatan , near Cozumel, early Friday. It will then push westward through the Yucatan before emerging in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico by Saturday. With the terrain of the Yucatan expected to weaken the storm some, the National Hurricane Center is forecasting Beryl to be a tropical storm as it moves back over water in the Gulf.
The exact landfall location remains unknown, and any shift in the forecast track can greatly change Beryl's impacts on South-Central Texas. A further east track in the forecast cone would mean the heavier rainfall totals would favor areas along the coast, and up to the Houston area. A more westerly track would bring greater rainfall across our area.
At this point, we are keeping rainfall chances around 50% early next week in San Antonio. We are likely to increase these chances if the forecast track remains consistent. Check back for updates.
