Huntsville officers were responding to a welfare check call when they found a 2-year-old child floating in a bathtub.
Huntsville police on Wednesday charged a mother with capital murder in connection with the death of her 2-year-old daughter.
Police said officers were responding to a welfare check call about 11 a.m. Wednesday and found the child floating in the bathtub. Officers initiated CPR and she was transferred to Huntsville Hospital by HEMSI. The child died at the hospital. Luccuina Braithwaite, 25, has been charged with capital murder. She is being held at the Madison County Jail without bond.
Police said Braithwaite fled after officers attempted to detain her at the scene in an apartment in the 12000 block of Sugar Mill Circle but she was captured on the property of Challenger School on Chaney Thompson Road after a short pursuit. Police said Braithwaite had no connection to the school and there was no threat to anyone at the school.
