I’ve been covering crime for almost 15 years and each and every story comes with its own heartache but this is one of the most horrific injustices I’ve ever had to report. It’s so cruel to think that a Sydney mother – who was recently separated – has had her world torn apart, all because she was lonely and looking for love. I first met Kirandeep Saggar at a McDonald’s Restaurant in Sydney’s west after a contact asked me to tell her story, in the hope it might end her excruciating nightmare.
I realised then that Kiran had no idea how powerful her story was — not only to take on the Indian and Canadian governments — but her experience might also help other women experiencing domestic violence. Once we agreed to do the story together, I began to realise the true extent of Ranjit Bath’s sickening obsession. Kiran and I would speak almost daily — and she would send me Bath’s text messages to her.
