More than 100 autograph hounds at the Dick's Sporting Goods store in Webster Wednesday night hoping they could get an autograph of Yordan Alvarez even though they'd missed out on getting a wristband for the event. Would they get it?
Pasadena Memorial graduate David Kolacny waits with 150 others outside Dick's Sporting Goods for the arrival of Yordan Alvarez.With a maroon umbrella protecting her from the morning sun, Deer Park resident Felicia Evans was lounging in a chair Wednesday, hoping her wait would not be in vain.
Undeterred, there she still was Wednesday night, filled with hope, her umbrella folded neatly to the side of her chair. She was in her 14th hour of sitting and listening to the sound of vehicles rumbling down the Gulf Freeway.But no longer was she just one of a dozen or so people who had continued sitting in front of the store that morning after missing out on the wristbands.
Then suddenly from the back of the long line, excitement erupted. Just before 7 p.m. a white vehicle pulled up to the loading dock area of the store and out stepped Alvarez. Those who noticed stared towards the loading dock, cell phones held high. After the Evans family and others had begun their walk, the store employee was then seen counting"1-2-3-4-5..." preparing to send the next 30 into the store to meet their hero.
But now they wanted an autograph from a World Series-winning baseball player, and the prospect of another drive from Lake Jackson wasn't going to stop them. In the middle of the line of people who didn't have wristbands was former Pasadena Memorial High School tennis player David Kolacny, a 2011 graduate now employed in the healthcare field.
