With freezing rain beginning in Dallas-Fort Worth, the region could see power outages like those already impacting more than 300,000 customers throughout a large swath of the state.

Austin Energy spokesperson Matt Mitchell said there are more than 1,300 individual incidents that have caused outages across the utility’s service area. These incidents include power lines in contact with the ground, lines downed by falling tree limbs covered in ice and damaged infrastructure. that it was “prioritizing power restoration to critical organizations and working to get the greatest number of customers online in the least amount of time.”
“At this point what we’re doing, at least on the Travis County side, is if there’s a tree down on the road, a crew will go out and cut it up and just push it to the side just to try to get to the next tree because there are so many that are down,” Brown said. “Really asking people still to stay inside if they can and not travel.”
