Hundreds of San Jose homes could sprout at the site of a one-time assisted living center.

SAN JOSE — Hundreds of homes could sprout at the site of a one-time assisted living center in San Jose that’s near a train stop, city planning documents show.

The project is slated to be built on the site of a former assisted living center, according to Schoennauer. In recent years, the assisted living center operating on the site decided not to renew its lease and departed the property, leaving it vacant, according to Schoennauer. “This building impacts thousands of current residents by bringing in short-term apartment renters who have no vested interest in the area,” Lindsay Geier wrote in a February 2023 email to the city. “These renters will have a long-term impact on the current look and feel of this quiet neighborhood, and not in a positive way!”
