Police officials say security on the route will be tight because of overseas wars and the threat of political violence.
New Yorkers will see increased security and street closures this weekend for the 2024 New York City Marathon, police officials said Wednesday.
Chell said the marathon will have the normal contingent of security precautions that includes anti-drone units, sand trucks to block unauthorized cars and plainclothes officers mixed in the crowd. Police have not yet announced specific road closures, but New Yorkers can expect hundreds of them starting Saturday night, according to Chell.
