The First Minister has spoken out ahead of threatened strike action at three care homes across Glasgow in a row over pay.
Humza Yousaf has called on care home bosses to hold talks with workers in a bid to avoid strike action.
It would be the first strike at Scottish care homes and come after staff overwhelmingly rejected a pay offer at care homes in Ballieston, Stobhill and Cardonald. “Social care workers provide a vital service," Yousaf wrote. "Their work providing personal care and social support to residents is essential to the running of care homes that are rooted in compassion.”
Kirsty Nimmo, GMB Scotland organiser, claimed the new management is attempting to drive down pay and conditions, slashing overtime pay, for example, and reneging on previous pay offers.
