The First Minister also said he believed fans would just ignore the guidance if it was pushed through

Humza Yousaf has said “ludicrous” plans for controlling football supporters’ buses will be “ignored” if they are introduced in Scotland. The First Minister also said a colleague had written to the UK Government demanding to know where the proposals had come from.

He said one of his Ministers, Maree Todd, would contact the UK Government and Traffic Commissioner to object. He added: “I don't know why they've been suggested here in Scotland and I'm very much aligned with the Scottish Football Association and clubs who have expressed a deep level of concern about these proposals.

“We are concerned by the targeted nature of these proposals, which serve to demonise football fans and interfere unnecessarily in people’s lives. In Scotland, there are already appropriate powers held by PHV operators, Police Scotland and other partners to deal effectively with a very small number of incidents by a minority of fans.

Top news stories today The new guidelines cover “taking passengers to sporting events in Scotland” but have been written by Richard Turfitt, the Senior Traffic Commissioner for Great Britain, who states the rules are already in place in England and Wales. Although the title of the paper references sporting events, the word ‘football’ is used 35 times in the document and no other sport is mentioned.
