The borough of Hummelstown was awarded more than $900,000 by the Harrisburg Area Transportation Study.Hummelstown plans to construct new pedestrian infrastructure in strategic locations. This will include a mix of new sidewalk connections and sidewalk improvements, the installation of new high-visibility resin crosswalks, improved lighting, and handicapped accessible ramps.
The Harrisburg Area Transportation Study has approved more than $7 million in funding for 13 improvement projects in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties including the Hummelstown Borough pedestrian safety improvements project. The grants are from its 2022 Regional Transportation Plan Implementation Grant Program. The long-range Regional Transportation Plan sets a framework and priorities for the expenditure of federal transportation funds over a 25-year period.
The Harrisburg Area Transportation Study is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties and their 103 municipalities. It works with federal, state and local agencies and officials to meet the transportation needs of an area covering nearly 1,700 square miles.
