Hugh Jackman has denied ever using steroids to play Wolverine: 'I got to be careful what I say here, but I had been told anecdotally what the side effects are of that...So no, I just did it the old school way.'

Hugh Jackman has denied the question of if he uses steroids to achieve his muscular physique as Wolverine. Jackman is set to reprise his role as the X-Men character for the first time since 2017's Logan, in the upcoming third installment of the Deadpool franchise. Deadpool 3 will also mark Wolverine's first adventure set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

When discussing achieving Wolverine's signature muscular build with CNN's Chris Wallace , Jackman officially confirmed that he has never taken steroids when bulking up for the part. This admission follows Jackman's prior explanation of the intense exercise regimen he took on for Deadpool 3, which, along with a healthy diet, he credits for his transformation into the iconic superhero.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY No, I love my job. And I love Wolverine… I got to be careful what I say here, but I had been told anecdotally what the side effects are of that. And I was like, ‘I don’t love it that much.’ So no, I just did it the old school way. And I tell you, I’ve eaten more chickens — I’m so sorry to all the vegans and vegetarians and to the chickens of the world. Literally the karma is not good for me. If the deity has anything related to chickens, I’m in trouble.

Reynolds and Jackman first took on the frequent comic book rivals alongside one another in 2009's critically panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Despite the disappointing outcome of the film, it did mark the beginning of a close friendship between the two superhero actors, making this upcoming collaboration all the more exciting. Though Reynolds originally conceived of Deadpool 3 being a road trip adventure-comedy between the characters, it's unclear if that's still the plan.

While new plot details have been strategically kept under wraps, with the real-life friendship between Jackman and Reynolds and the pair's penchant for publicly teasing one another, fans can expect a hilarious and sardonic adventure of epic proportions from Deadpool 3. Jackman has also cryptically teased that the film will feature him doing "something [he's] never done before" as Wolverine, which should only increase anticipation for the project.
