Hugh Grant, who starred as the Prime Minister in Richard Curtis' 2003 film LoveActually, says one of the rom-com's scenes was a nightmare for him: 'I saw it in the script and I thought, ‘Well, I’ll hate doing that.''

Love Actually star Hugh Grant says he didn't want to do his now-famous dance scene. The classic Christmas film Love Actually debuted in 2003, with an all-star cast including Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Liam Neeson, and Grant. Directed by Richard Curtis, the romantic comedy movie follows nine interconnected love stories of various natures - some romantic, some familial, and some platonic.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY As David adjusts to his new role, he achieves a major victory both personally and professionally by standing up to the President of the United States during a rousing address to his people and the President's men. Later that night, a radio station plays "Jump" by The Pointer Sisters in his honor, and David dances along in a silly and sweet moment that has since become synonymous with the film.

“I saw it in the script and I thought, ‘Well, I’ll hate doing that. I didn’t fancy doing the dance at all, let alone rehearsing it… And to this day, there’s many people, and I agree with them, who think it’s the most excruciating scene ever committed to celluloid. But then some people like it.”Love Actually's Cultural Impact Explained Curtis confirms Grant's frustrations with shooting the scene, saying that the actor "kept saying no" to filming it at first.

Love Actually continued Grant's successful streak as an endearing leading man in romantic comedy movies after his turns in Four Weddings & A Funeral and Notting Hill, both of which were also directed by Curtis. Though he is one of the many characters represented in the movie, his awkwardly charming mannerisms, memorable dance sequence, and relatable demeanor made his plot a fan-favorite storyline.
