Rayshawn Pleasant was the spark for Auburn’s comeback as he returned the opening half kickoff for 50-yards, putting the Tigers offense in good field position to start the third quarter. “I knew coming out of halftime I had to give my team a spark.
I told the guys before we hit the field, I told them, ‘Y’all get a body on a body, and y’all meet me at the goal post.,’” Pleasant said postgame. “I was really still mad I got caught by the kicker, and I knew I had to find some type of way to get into the end zone, and I delivered with the pick six.”After Auburn cut its deficit to 24-19 in the fourth quarter, Pleasant intercepted Taylen Green’s pass and returned it for a 49-yard touchdown. It was Auburn’s first defensive touchdown since Antonio Kite’s fumble recovery in the endzone in 2024 and the first pick-six since Jaylin Simpson’s 50-yard return against UMass in 2023. “I was just happy I was able to deliver for my team. That’s what I come out here and do,” Pleasant added. “I play for my team. Coach made the right call at the right time. I seen the play on film 1,000 times, and I already knew what was going to happen. I was just grateful and blessed I had the opportunity to be on the field, be able to make that play for my team.” Pleasant picked off Green for a second time in the final four minutes of the fourth quarter, helping Auburn close out its 33-24 victory over Arkansas. Auburn coach Hugh Freeze talked about his excitement level seeing his defense force four turnovers on the Razorbacks in the second half. “I kissed him. That may be the first player – I kissed him on the forehead," Freeze said postgame. “So, I started to kiss too, but I didn’t. And that was huge. Let’s see, Rayshawn had two, and had the other. And yeah, we forced a fumble. So, extremely proud of those guys. And we’re starting to play some different combinations that I think are making us better too. We’re getting Rayshawn, and and some of them on the field at the same time.” Auburn forced a turnover on four straight drives to end the game. It was the first time the Tigers forced four turnovers in the fourth quarter since doing so against. South Carolina on Sept. 25, 2010. The Tigers improve to a 4-4 overall record and got their first win SEC play. Auburn will host Kentucky next week with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on the SEC Network.
