"In these drainage basins we’re seeing widespread flooding that goes into houses and scenarios where we’ve had loss of life," said Dallas Water Utilities Interim Director Sarah Standifer."When the tunnel is in place, it’ll be able to take all of that rainwater." The Mill Creek tunnel will help alleviate flood concerns in Downtown, East and South Dallas, but the wider watershed project to help neighborhoods on the north side of the tunnel is still pending.

"It will impact their lives, it will improve the drainage, reduce the flooding and hopefully it’ll serve the citizens for years to come," said Mill Creek project manager Milton Brooks."This is just the first phase of a much larger system or projects."
