Football white paper: Huge shake-up of domestic game will give fans more power, protect clubs from ‘unscrupulous’ owners and allow government to stop European Super League-style breakawaysFootball fans will be given more power in a radical shake-up of the English domestic game as the UK government has revealed the full details of its ‘white paper’.

Plans follow the Government accepting recommendations from the Fan-Led Review of Football Governance, led by Tracey Crouch MPCardiff City fans protested the major re-brand of their beloved club by Malaysian owner Vincent Tan in 2012.

“Football is nothing without its fans, and the announcement today will ensure they remain at its heart while it continues to grow at home and abroad.” Football Supporters Association chief executive, Kevin Miles, said: “The FSA engaged in the fan-led review from day one and we warmly welcome the historic commitment from the government to introduce an independent regulator of English football. “The football governance white paper clearly addresses our key concerns around ownership, rogue competitions and sustainability and of course we support any proposals that offer fans a greater voice in the running of their clubs.
