At least 100 people are in the queue

Families have been queueing up in their dozens to catch a train to Skegness from Nottingham as the school summer holidays officially begin. At least 100 people could be seen lining up for a train to the popular seaside town from Nottingham Station on the morning of Monday, July 25.

The day marks the first weekday since Nottinghamshire schools broke up for the summer holidays. In an apparent effort to deal with the high demand, a number of East Midlands Railway staff are present on the platform with special green Skegness t-shirts and hoodies. Barriers and signage are also in place to help deal with the capacity. A total of 13 trains are running to the Lincolnshire destination throughout the day.

The first departed the city at 7.47am and will be leaving roughly once an hour up until around 9pm. Current prices for the two-hour trip average at £28 for a one-way ticket.
