It won't be better tomorrow
A collision involving two cars and a HGV on the southbound carriageway close to the junction with the M55 was reported to National Highways at 4.13pm. Although the debris was cleared by 4.36pm significant congestion is still being reported on both carriageways.
The tailbacks are likely to be exacerbated by ongoing roadworks on the A59 at Brockholes Brow on the hill between Preston and Blackburn. One lane has been closed since March 2021 after a landslip close to Brockholes Brow. Monitoring over the past six months has found that the embankment is still moving towards the road at a rate of around 10cm a month, with intervention urgently needed to stabilise it and restore the full width of the road and pavement.
Work on the A59, which links Blackburn and Preston with South Ribble, and Merseyside, has been scheduled to take place during the summer holidays but has caused tailbacks for motorists at peak times. The road has been fully closed closed since the end of July with diversions in place between Preston New Road and New Hall Lane.
