Using telescopes worldwide, astronomers have captured the first image of the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way.
Now, we're getting the first look at the enormous black hole at the center of our home galaxy, the Milky Way.
Researchers said capturing our black hole was more difficult than Messier 87's because ours is much smaller. "This means the brightness and pattern of the gas around Sgr A* was changing rapidly as the EHT Collaboration was observing it — a bit like trying to take a clear picture of a puppy quickly chasing its tail," Chan explains.Image credit: NASA/CXC/SAO; IR: NASA/HST/STScI.
