While many got to witness the driver’s impressive career, it was the Hueytown community that got to witness his final ride.
Officers then escorted Allison down Brooklane Drive to his final resting place, as people gathered along the funeral procession route to show their support.
“Bobby was a great man and it’s a sad day in Hueytown when this happened,” said Mike Elrod, a Hueytown resident. He was one of the original members of the famous Alabama Gang that settled in Hueytown. Allison won 85 times in his career, putting him fourth on the all-time list. He won the 1983 NASCAR Championship and the Daytona 500 three times.
Mike and Lisa Elrod own Western Realty across the street from the funeral home. They put up a sign that read:“Hueytown honored Bobby a good bit and he honored Hueytown,” Mike Elrod said. “I don’t think you could have found a better representative for Hueytown.
