Rumors suggest Huawei is working on a successor to its groundbreaking Mate XT tri-fold smartphone, featuring an upgraded chipset, enhanced cameras, and potentially improved accessories.
Huawei's Mate XT, the world's first tri-fold smartphone , made headlines in September 2024. Despite its unconventional design, the device generated excitement and showcased Huawei's innovative capabilities. The unique form factor sparked discussion and prompted the company to further explore this direction. A new report suggests that Huawei is already developing a successor to the Mate XT.
Sources indicate the second-generation tri-fold smartphone is slated for release in the second half of 2025, potentially aligning with Huawei's tradition of introducing new flagship devices in September. While the display technology is expected to remain unchanged, the upcoming model will benefit from an upgraded chipset and an enhanced camera system. Beyond hardware improvements, Huawei is anticipated to refine its accessory ecosystem for the Mate XT successor. This could include enhancements to existing accessories or the introduction of new ones. The original Mate XT came with a unique rotating case made from durable aramid fiber, capable of rotating 270 degrees and serving as a stand. Additionally, it supported a foldable touch keyboard, transforming the phone into a mini PC, especially when paired with the rotating case. It will be intriguing to see what novel accessories Huawei brings to the table to further enhance the appeal of the Mate XT's successor
