HSMTMTS creator Tim Federle responds to rumors of Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens returning, revealing that as of now, the two are not in season 4: 'We’re actively working on that right now.'
Tim Federle, the creator of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, responds to season 4 rumors concerning Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. Inspired by the widely successful film series, the mockumentary musical, set within a more realistic depiction of East High, premiered on Disney+ back in 2019.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Efron and Hudgens famously portrayed central couple Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez in the 2006 Disney Channel movie, appearing in all three High School Musical movies. Since then, both have remained attached to the franchise in the public eye, even as they moved onto other projects.
"I’m going to chalk that up to being a remarkable coincidence, but we’d love to get Zac and Vanessa and all of them back, so we’re actively working on that right now." Fans of the High School Musical movies were excited to learn of Corbin Bleu's role in HSMTMTS season 3, and Federle spoke on his involvement as well, confirming Bleu had fun and would be open to coming back again. With his participation, as well as apparent interest from Efron and the close relationship between the other cast members, a full reunion is still a possibility.
Both Efron and Hudgens remain relatively busy, starring in a handful of upcoming film and television projects, so it will be interesting to see if they are included in HSMTMTS season 4 and in what capacity. For some, a cameo will be enough to excite them, but others might still be holding out hope for a proper High School Musical 4 film, with the actors returning as their characters.
